Bruce II Sports Centre Ice and Curling Rink

Welcome to the RinkTime page for Bruce II Sports Centre which is home to an Ice Rink, Curling Rink, Swimming Pool, Fitness Centre, Bowling Alley and Conference Rooms. Rebuilt and opened in 1996, the Bruce II Sports Centre of Channel-Port-aux-Basques, NL is open year round. However, the ice season begins in October until April. During the off-ice season, we offer a Summer Sports Program for youth, host many special events, etc.

Bruce II Sports Centre offers Ice Figure Skating & Ice Skating Lessons to all.

We also offer adult and youth ice hockey. We offer adult and youth pickup ice hockey. We also offer stick time.

One of our main attractions is our Public Skating Sessions. Come join us, lace-em up and get on the ice for a great experience.

The seating capacity of the Bruce II Arena is 684. During the ice season, our group users include the Port Aux Basques Minor Hockey Association, Port Aux Basques Figure Skating Club, Molson Recreation Hockey League, and the Intermediate Hockey League.

We offer General Skating, Pre-school Skating, Adult Skating and Shinny Hockey throughout the week.

General Skating:

Tuesday/Thursday 3:15 0- 4:15 pm.

Saturday 3:45 – 4:45 pm.

Sunday 7:45 – 8:45 pm.

Cost: Adult $3.00, Student $2.00

Pre-school Skating:

Tuesday/Thursday 2:00 – 3:00 pm.

Cost: Adult $2.00, Child $1:50

Adult Skating:

Monday, Wednesday & Friday 10:00 – 11:30 am.

Cost: $2:50

Shinny Hockey:

Tuesday/Thursday 10:30 – 12:00 noon.

Cost: $3.00

Ice Rental:

Rental up to 12 midnight $100.47/hour.

Rental from 12 midnight – 4:00 am $65.02.

During the off-season, the rink is available for ball hockey, birthday parties, conferences, trade shows, concerts, etc.

- Rental times available upon request.
- Guards may put in a lane at their discretion during an open swim or for the purpose of private lesson instruction.
- There are two lanes available during the Adult Swim.
- Lap Swims are open to anyone wishing to just swim laps regardless of age.
- There are four lanes available during the Early Bird Swim.
- Water Aerobics is for ANYONE interested, male or female, young or old.
- Water running takes place in the deep end of the pool with the aid of a flotation belt and a bungee cord to keep you in one place. This is a non-impact activity.
- There are two lanes available during the Senior Swim.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult during a family swim (18 years or older).
- Open swims are available to the general public.
- There are two lanes available during noon swim and this swim is open to the general public as well.
- Each swim will conclude with 10 minutes left to allow lifeguards sufficient time to adjust lanes as well as clean up if necessary.

The Bruce II Swimming Pool is the home of the Port Aux Basques Piranha Swim Club.

The Bruce II Sports Centre has a 6 lane/5pin Bowling Alley. The bowling Alley is in full operation during the ice season and is available for rental year round. Regular user groups include YBC Bowling, Adult Open League, Ladies League, and a Mixed League.

‘Glow’ Bowling (Black lights w/glow bowling balls):

Friday 6:00 – 9:00 pm.

Cost: $1.15/shoes & $1.60/game.

Open Bowling:

Saturday 6:00 – 9:00 pm.

Cost: $2.00/game (shoes included).

Birthday Parties and Private Rentals:

Cost: $65.00/hour.

*The Bowling Alley can offer a bar service upon request.

Gateway Curling Club

Before the original Bruce Arena was consumed in a fire, the Gateway Curling Club curled on the ice surface of the Arena. Since the construction of the Bruce II, the club has 2 sheets of ice at their disposal, as well as a beautiful lounge area and bar. It is also equipped with 2 overhead cameras to view the action at the far end of the rink.

Regular user groups include the Men’s League, Women’s League, Mixed League and a Junior League.

Conference/Meeting Rooms

The Bruce II Sports Centre also houses two beautiful Conference/Meeting Rooms. One room, called the Multi-purpose Room (MPR) overlooks the ice rink. This room is often used as a ‘Hospitality room’ during hockey tournaments and other special events. The other called the Curling Viewing Room (CVR) overlooks the curling rink.

Both rooms are available any time of the year for birthday parties, meetings, conferences, etc.
