About Us
Pattison's Today
Built in 1979, Mike and Kay Pattison opened the doors on December 5th.  The skating rink is "an affordable fun and safe place the whole family can enjoy," according to Mike.
Pattison's Flashback
Mike Pattison has been around roller skating his entire life. He was born into skating with his Grandfather's passion for the sport.  The Pattison family moved east following a fire at their rink on Redondo Beach that devastated the first family skating rink owned by Mike's Grandfather in 1951.
Mike's parents, Pat and Evelyn, owned and operated Pattison's North in Spokane until 1974. At that time they sold the rink to their daughter Bobbie and her husband Ben Winkler. The Winkler's owned and managed the rink for thirty-three years before retiring in 2006.  Now Mike Pattison's son Shaun and his wife Jericho are keeping the business in the family name running it with the same core values as Shaun's Grandfather.  That's four generations of roller rink owners!
Mike Pattison and his wife Kay were given the opportunity to move back to the Federal Way area and own a skating rink of their own in 1979.  Pattison's West is now managed by the Pattison's youngest son Mark as he continues the same values and ideals as the other Pattison establishments. "You would think I would be sick of roller skating after being around it for 24 years, but I'm just getting started," says manager Mark Pattison.

Group Events
Pattison's runs over six group/school events a week. From scouts, to church, and more, we can accommodate your group.

Group discounts are available for all public skating sessions. Groups must call a week in advance and reserve a time to receive the discounted price. To receive a group discount you must have 15 skaters or more. You will get fifty cents off per person of the admission price for that skating session.

Classes
Beginners Class
Saturdays 12 p.m.-1 p.m. The cost is $5 and includes skate rental.
Need to learn how to show off your skating moves?  Come learn how to skate like a pro!!! Class is always taught by experts.

Beginners Speed Class
Sundays 5 p.m.-6 p.m. The cost is $5 and includes skate rental.
Come and learn the basics of speed skating.  Must have basic skating skills.  Class is always taught by a National Champion.

Speed Skating Team
Speed Skating has always been Pattison's way of dominating.  Pattison's West is home to Pattison's Team X-treme, an inline speed skating team that is a force in the US racing scene.  Mike Pattison started coaching speed skating in Spokane, WA in 1964.  When he moved to Federal Way he continued to coach and started Pattison's Speed Club and quickly became the #1 team in the Northwest.  Pattison's has won high point at Regionals for the past 20 years and has produced National champions and National records for the past 15 consecutive years. In 2007 Pattison's was 2nd in the nation out of 75 teams who compete at Nationals.
The team ranges in age from 6 all the way up to 48 years of age and they compete in races all over the country. The team practices four to five days a week, October through July.
Apollo Ohno and JR Celski, both members of the U.S. Short Track Ice Team, skated and trained for ten years at Pattison's West.  If you are interested in the sport of Speed Skating, please come and check out the beginner's speed skating class. Held every Sunday from 5:00-6:00 p.m. The cost for the class is $5.00 and includes inline rental if needed and is taught by national champions.  Helmets are recommended but not required. Please call to confirm the class - coach may be out of town at speed meets.

Pro Shop
The Pattison's pro shop carries a full line of roller skates as well as Inline speed skates. We carry Riedell, Sure –Grip, Luigino-Racing, Bones, Powerslide, and Hyper/Kryptonics. If we don't have it in stock we can usually order it. We have the largest inventory of skates in WA. Skate prices start at $52.00.

General Questions
Q. What is the smallest QUAD skate size you rent?
We have size 6 toddler all the way up to a size 15 in mens.
Q. What is the age limit for skaters?
If they can fit in skates they can skate. It is really up to the individual or their parent if they want to assume the risk.
Q. Can we bring a stroller on the floor?
Only during our Kids On Wheels session on Thursdays 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Q. Can we bring our own skates?
Yes. As long as they pass inspection at the ticket window, you can wear them on the floor. Regular admission charges still apply.
Q. Do adults have to pay if they are just coming to watch?
We do not charge adults who are there to chaperone their children. If they wish to skate then regular admission charges apply.
Q. Do you have food for purchase?
YES!!! We have a full pizza kitchen with delicious pizza made fresh and a full concession with lots of choices. Our menu consists of Pepsi products, nachos, hot dogs, corn dogs, pretzels, chips, and a wide variety of candy options.
Q. Can we bring our own food in?
We do not allow outside food or beverages to be consumed in our facility. A cake is the only exception and you *must have a party reservation* in order to bring it in.
Q. Can we pay with Debit/Credit?
YES! For all public skating sessions we accept Visa or Mastercard for Admission, Food, and Novelty Shop.
Q. Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes! They come in denominations of $5.00
Q. Are we allowed to wear hats, hoods, or bandanas?
For safety reasons we do not allow any head gear (hats, hood, bandanas, crowns...etc) while you are skating.  On Friday and Saturday nights we do not allow hats or any type of headgear in the building.
Q. Do you have somewhere to store valuables and personal items?
Yes. We have lockers that you can use for $.25
Q. Do you have a group discount?
Yes. For all groups who wish to receive a discount on admission, please call our office @ 253.838.7442 to reserve your group and learn about our special rates.

Q. Can I wear my skates in your parking lot
as I enter or exit the building?
For safety reasons no one is allowed to wear skates into or out of the building or in the parking lot. You must wear shoes upon entering and exiting our building.
Q. Do you sell skates?
YES!!!! We have a wide variety of quad, rollerblades, and speed inline skates. They come in all price ranges and sizes. Please come visit our Pro Shop during open session times to look at our catalog and speak with a qualified representative.
Q. Do you have a speed team?
YES!!! If interested you can come in and speak with our club coach to see how you can get started.
Q. Do you have skating lessons?
YES! Beginners skating lessons every Saturday 12 p.m.-1 p.m. The cost is $5 and includes skate rental and beginners speed class every Sunday 5 p.m.-6 p.m. The cost is $5 and includes skate rental.
Q. If we do not want to use regular skate rental that come for free with our admission, can we upgrade?
Absolutely! We have Quad Speed Skates ($2 extra) or inlines ($2 extra) to choose from.
